Great article. When I analyze the people who are the most successful and those who lag behind in my company, this article is right on target. While the people who have become more successful exhibit some of these characteristics, they have found ways to overcome them.

Hi Lesly! Thank you for your response! To start looking for internships in your area, I suggest logging onto our job database at http://www.park.edu/career. From there you can create an account using your park id and a password, and then you can view all of the internships and job postings that companies send to us. That is the best place to start. It’s very smart to start thinking about internships now as it is a great way to gain relevant experience! Hi! I loved the article. Now, do you have any recommendations of how to start looking for internships? I am a freshman, in the Army Reserves and unemployed. I would like to find an Internship where I can start not only learning, but gaining experience in the field because I believe is one of the best ways to learn.

Hi Janay,
I am currently looking for employment. I completed my degree in Social Psychology and my Associates in office Management. I never imagined it would be this tedious finding employment. The Park Success Center recommended I contact the Career Development Center to explore my options in finding gainful employment. I would like to develop my job seeking skills and I need to find the best possible way to do so. Your assistance, guidance and direction would be ever so grateful.

Hi Leah,
I am glad you are thinking about taking this major at one of Park’s satelite campuses. Park offer one of the best education in the business field, and I am sure you will not regret choosing Park.
So far I am enjoying this major a lot. Accounting is not about counting money all day like a lot of people think. We learn how to record different transactions a company makes, like a simple purchase of goods to how to report operations in the balance sheet that list all the assets, liabilities and equity of a company. Costing goods, making financial reports for investors and for Boards of Directors for decision making inside a company are also part of an accountant’s job.
Like I usually say, an accountant’s job is like the same job a doctor does with his patients. The only difference in this case is that the patient is the company. As you are going to major in Management/Accounting, you are going to learn more about decision making within a company. You will learn how to make decisions based on financial reports from your company to implement them in the way that it can be effective within your company. A managerial Accountant role is basically to make sure that every organ in the body, which is the company here, works normally, at the minimum cost possible with great revenue. Managerial Accounting is really a good sector to concentrate in as an accountant. It is fun, and a lot of students like it more than Financial Accounting which deal more with outside the company. As for me, I like both Managerial and Financial Accounting.
